Tutorial Tuesday + Giveaway {#2}

This cool Florida weather has been lovely. I don't know about you but it puts me in the shopping mood instantly. I love it and I love Christmas! It's coming ladies, its right around the corner. Can't wait. Ok so in honor of this cool weather that has hung around I bring you something warm...

Ladies you should have one of these in your home at all times. I don't have a name for it so let's just call it a cordless heating pad. : ) It is a little piece of heaven let me tell you! As I sit here typing it is resting on my shoulders and it is splendid. I am in love. And I know you will be too. This tutorial involves a little bit of sewing. But don't be scared. It is very much a beginner's sewing project. Promise. I used a sewing machine but I am sure you can do it by hand if you don't have a machine.

Here's what you'll need:

A piece of fabric 9" x 36"

Thread

Rice

A couple tea bags or lavender would be lovely too

I folded the fabric in half with printed sides facing each other and sewed a straight stitch {with 1/2″ seam allowance} on the two long sides. And turned it right side out like so.

Then I marked 4 equal sections on the front. Starting with the section closest to the closed end. I stitched a straight stitch about 3/4 of the way closed. Then I filled it with rice {I used about a cup and half of rice for each section}.

I filled it with rice and some tea, Chamomile tea. I sprinkled it out of the tea bag and into the rice bag {I used 2 tea bags for the entire bag}. The rice has a smell… not an odor, just a rice-y smell and I figured a little dry Chamomile would be helpful. I wanted to use lavender but couldn't get my hands on some in time.

Ok…  After I filled it with rice I tried to maneuver all the rice away from the small section that had not been sewn shut to allow the rice to be poured in that section. I then sewed it closed… moved on to the next section doing the same thing. At the end I turned the ends inside and top stitched the bag shut. You will have 4 divided pouches {just to help the rice from gathering at one end only}.

Ta daa!

I throw it in the microwave for 3 minutes. WARNING— it’s HOT when it comes out. You don't wait to put it directly on bare skin, you'll hurt yourself.  It’s not too hot against clothing but don’t microwave it for 3 minutes and then lay it on bare skin… or you’ll cook yourself. It stays hot for a while. It's lovely.
